Now here's a great idea. Remember those yellow arm bands that were sweeping the nation? I loved the idea, but didn't like the materials. Slightly too mass-produced, with a hint of this-is-going-to-fill-the-landfill-soon. Check out this gorgeous bracelet.

The Power of Hands Foundation
The objective of Power of Hands Foundation is to raise awareness of traditional and dying crafts which are being replaced by mass production and to bring in educational programmes set up by designers from the film and fashion industry, so that with training crafts-people produce goods which will appeal to the Western market. As countries develop and aspire to the western way, traditions and cultures are often lost. Crafts people involved in these industries are generally women and their economic empowerment through self-employment is central to this initiative.

Please help these women to adapt their skills to help themselves.

Funds donated to the Tsunami disaster do not offer traditional Sri Lankan lace makers a way of rebuilding their lives. These fishermen's wives have lost their livelihoods, families, and homes, and they desperately need help.

There are four different designs, and they are all gorgeous. How lovely! They also sell lace by the metre ... to be a designer with a following, you could revitalize this whole area with one season of haute couture wedding gowns.
